WITH coronavirus taking over not only the Chronicle’s news coverage, but also other local, national and international news stories we wanted to bring you some more cheerful stories which will hopefully bring a smile.
1. Staff across Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (HHFT) were celebrated at the seventh annual WOW! Awards Gala Ceremony.
From porters to physicians, Hampshire Hospitals staff receive over 300 nominations each month from patients, relatives and colleagues.
2. Over 40 keen walkers, with and without dogs, took part in Home-Start’s annual Dog Walk to raise £600 for the family support charity.
Two walks departed - one long and one short - striding through countryside around Itchen Abbas.
3. Game of Thrones superstar and children’s author Clive Mantle visited Kings Worthy Primary School for World Book Day.
Clive read excerpts from his first book: The Treasure At The Top Of The World, before taking questions from the children in two special assemblies.
4. The circus came to Twyford St Mary’s to give youngsters the chance to entertain the local community.
Acts included a magic show, street dance, gymnastics, comedy sketches and the diabolo.
The circus was performed at a packed Twyford Parish Hall and in total the event raised just under £600.
5. Winchester author Juliet Deacock who has written a children’s book after learning of a sweet tale told to her by a friend.
In the summer of 2018 Juliet’s friend Shelly Hughes and her family, who live in Itchen Stoke, took in a one-day old sickly orphaned duckling but it became a member of their family.
Juliet said: “When it was little used to cuddle up and nuzzle into the dog. It learnt to swim in a washing up bowl, then a bucket and then a paddling pool.”
