A Winchester man has been jailed for breaching the terms of his Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO), multiple times, just weeks after it was imposed.

Gary Page, of Christchurch Road, admitted two breaches of the CBO at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, December 21.

The order, banning him from the city centre for two years for shoplifting and anti-social behaviour, was originally imposed on December 6.

Page, 50, was jailed for eight weeks for breaching the order on Tuesday, December 19 and Wednesday, December 20.

A week earlier he was fined £80 and ordered to pay £40 costs for breaking the order on Tuesday, December 12.

In sentencing Page, magistrates activated a suspended sentence that Page had received for public order offences in July this year.

He will remain subject to the CBO, prohibiting him from entering the High Street, the grounds of Winchester Cathedral, Market Street, Market Lane, St Maurice’s Passage, and a section of Middle Brook Street between St George’s Street and High Street, upon his release.

Sergeant Michelle Harris said: “We hope this reassures people that we will continue action to enforce CBOs that have been granted by the courts.

“We know that shoplifting and associated anti-social behaviour can have a negative impact on those who work and live in the city centre, and we will look at all powers available to us to bring those responsible to justice.”

Inspector Matt Kirby previously described the chronic offender as “a real nuisance in the city centre, affecting both visitors and businesses”.
