Long waits face anyone trying to get home via the Park and Ride services in Winchester

On Saturday, November 25, hundreds of people flocked to the city centre to enjoy the Christmas Market and enjoy the weekend Black Friday deals.

Before entering the market, shoppers had to endure a queue that weaved by the Cathedral towards High Street.

Getting home would prove another challenge for anyone hoping to get a bus back to the Park and Ride car parks.

At around 5pm, the queue for the bus towards Barfield and St Catherines at Broadway crossed over the road, nearly reaching Subway.

As temperatures inch closer to freezing, many would have been hoping for a quick bus service.

Unfortunately, due to the high volume of people heading into Winchester the bus services have faced delays most of the day.

Stagecoach has said on X: "All town services are still subject to long delays and cancellations, heavy traffic remains on the one-way system."

Winchester Cathedral advises visitors to use public transport or use the Park and Ride facilities.

Online they write: "If travelling by car is the only option, please make use of the Park and Ride car parks which are located around the outskirts of the city.

"Winchester City Council operates an excellent and frequent service to all locations, with drop off points located 2-3 minutes walk from the Cathedral."

Barfield Park and Ride is a 15-minute walk from the city centre, while St Catherines is approximately 20 minutes away. The bus journey takes less than 10 minutes, and the ticket price is included in the parking fee.
