Chaos descended upon Winchester this weekend as hundreds of people headed to the Christmas market.

On Saturday, November 25, anyone hoping to enter Winchester Cathedral's Christmas Market faced a lengthy queue before they could even browse the stalls.

A video shows hundreds of people queuing from the market's entrance on Cathedral Close, weaving in front of the Cathedral itself, and towards High Street.

A man can be overheard asking a steward what the queue is for, when he is told it's for the market he replies with a shocked: "Ah right."

The high volume of people in the city is reportedly slowing down mobile signal and causing slow traffic throughout the city centre.

Stagecoach has warned passengers that its services were facing long delays due to the amount of cars queuing for city centre car parks.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, the bus company wrote: "All town services still subject to long delays and service disruption, cars queueing on the one-way system for the car parks causing severe congestion."

Winchester Cathedral advises visitors to the market to use public transport or use the Park and Ride facilities.

Online they write: "If travelling by car is the only option, please make use of the Park and Ride car parks which are located around the outskirts of the city.

"Winchester City Council operates an excellent and frequent service to all locations, with drop off points located 2-3 minutes walk from the Cathedral."
