A GROUP of Hampshire lawyers got together on International Women’s Day for the launch of ‘Legally Flushed’- an initiative for female legal workers.

The lawyers from Hampshire’s solicitors’ firms and barristers’ chambers gathered at Winchester Cathedral to celebrate the brainchild of Pump Court Chambers barrister Imogen Robins.

Hampshire Chronicle:

Legally Flushed aims to connect women working in the legal industry to ensure they lead happy and productive lives as well as reaping the rewards that flow from working in law.

The event, on March 8, was hosted by Pump Court and its senior clerk Tony Atkins and attended by both men and women. Speakers included Danielle Taylor, an associate at Paris Smith, and Blake Morgan partner Jennifer Williamson, who shared their insights into the profession.

Hampshire Chronicle:

Founder Imogen said: “The event’s theme was to encourage embracing equity and to help give women the best opportunities in endeavouring in successful future careers that feel like a shoe that fits.

“Positive progress has been made but they are only small steps for the time being. For example, recent reports from the Bar Standards Board and Association show that there are shocking discrepancies and that female barristers are likely to earn less than male barristers.

“There is much to be done, in terms of ensuring adequate childcare so that women may enjoy a profitable and rewarding career. Many women still undertake the lion’s share of childcare which can stifle a future career path from progressing.”

Hampshire Chronicle:

Legally Flushed hopes to help women network and have a fair chance at reaching equity partnerships and the top of the barristers’ profession and judiciary.
