POLICE have upped patrols after vandals targeted a Winchester tailoring business – throwing eggs and kicking in the back door.

The owner of Winchester Tailoring, Murat Zendel, has been overwhelmed with the positive response from the public who have rallied around him to protect the business and the city.

Winchester police put on extra foot patrols this week in the Kings Walk shopping area following the vandalism and officers said they have “some strong leads to investigate”.

Hampshire Chronicle:

Since the group of teenagers targeted the business by throwing eggs, dumping rubbish, shouting racist comments and kicking in the back door on Saturday, February 26, Winchester City Council has visited to help make repairs and clean the shop front.

The police have also checked in on the tailors and are cracking down on anti-social behaviour in the area.

Mr Zendel, 40, said: “I hope we’ll all be okay, I want to trust the police. If everyone does their job we should be alright.

“By doing more, it should ensure that the same doesn’t happen again. Officers told me that they are trying various measures and I want to believe that this is the case.

“Customers have come in to show their support and express their apologies after the attack. With such unpleasant problems a public response is needed as it can’t be fought alone.

Hampshire Chronicle:

“I love Winchester, it’s a beautiful city that deserves to be looked after. We are stronger together and I have full faith that we’ll make this a better city with different communities and cultures coming together.

“A very serious earthquake happened in my country and we should be unifying everyone through constructive, positive actions and respect.”
