SIR: I write in response to Mr Hickey's letter asking for more cycle Lanes and for fewer motor vehicles (Chronicle, September 23).

He points out that most people could walk into town or catch a bus to reduce traffic as cyclists feel it's too dangerous to cycle on roads.

As a pedestrian who walks into town most days I would ask Mr Hickey to consider the safety of pedestrians. I was recently knocked down by a cyclist outside Iceland and was berated by him for being in his way I did point out that God didn't put eyes in the back of my head therefore was not aware he was approaching.

I'm not suggesting that all cyclists are inconsiderate and I'm all for reducing traffic but we do need to consider the safety of pedestrians when cycling on pavements or in busy areas like between Iceland and Primark and the area between Sainsbury and Marks and Spencer especially on market days.

What was once a pleasure walking into town has now made me very nervous and apprehensive because not only do I have to dodge cyclist but skateboarders and e-scooter riders.
