THE trust behind Winchester hospital is running an investigation after a mother died in childbirth.
As previously reported, on March 13 Bishop’s Waltham mother-of-two Lucy Howell passed away at just 32-years-old.
Julie Dawes, chief nurse at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, confirmed that the proper procedures are being followed.
She said: “Deaths in childbirth are rare, but sadly can still occur. Steps are in place to ensure a full investigation takes place in these instances, in line with national guidance, and any and all learnings are shared with the team and quickly put into practice.
“We have a dedicated team of bereavement midwives who are there to offer specialist support to bereaved relatives at what is an incredibly difficult time and our thoughts are with the family involved.”
Lucy’s husband Matt is raising money to install a memorial at Winnall Moors Nature Reserve in Winchester.
