A HEARTBROKEN widower has received overwhelming support for a tribute to his late wife who died during childbirth.

On March 13, Bishop's Waltham mother-of-two Lucy Howell passed away at just 32-years-old.

Now her husband Matt is raising money to install a memorial at Winnall Moors Nature Reserve in Winchester – one of Lucy's favourite places to take her eldest daughter Rosie.

The GoFundMe has already raised more than £10,500 through 271 donors, despite the target being set at £3,000.

"The world lost a wonderful mum, beautiful wife, cherished daughter and incredible person," posted Matthew to online fundraiser.

"Lucy Howell (née Stockwell) passed away suddenly during the birth of her second daughter. The shock and pain of Lucy's death has been unimaginable.

"Her heart-breaking loss is tempered only by the fact that newborn Pippa is a strong, healthy baby. Lucy's family intends to raise money for a memorial in her name.

"Those donations will go towards an enhancement project at Winnall Moors nature reserve. Lucy was passionate about wildlife and the conservation of these natural areas, and this was one of Lucy's favourite places."

Around £3,000 will be used on the memorial and additional donations will be used to invest in local nature projects.

Matthew's post continues: "The project will benefit both wildlife and people, and will include a plaque in Lucy's memory. The exact project will be decided between the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust (HIWWT) and Lucy's family in the near future.

"Initial plans are to revamp the willow log circle in the woodland glade, and to fund improvements to the pond-dipping area and habitat for water voles."

An update on the selected projects will be sent to donors at the end of May.
