Eastleigh manager Richard Hill admits his side are more organised than ever as they prepare for Saturday’s crunch Vanarama Conference match at the Silverlake Stadium against Kidderminster Harriers.

The Spitfires are becoming accustomed to playing in meaningful games.

And the 5.15pm kick off on Stoneham Lane will be no different and could, in fact, be the most significant game in the club’s history.

A point against the Worcestershire outfit will mean Eastleigh finish in the Conference play-offs and, subsequently, puts them, potentially, just three games away from promotion to League Two.

Reassuringly, over the past month, with the pressure building as they work towards a top five finish, Hill’s side, to his own admission, are getting better and better.

“The longer the season is going, the more organised we’re looking,” he said, after they won 2-1 at Lincoln City on Saturday – their fourth win in a row.

Spitfires’ supporters will undoubtedly be going in to the Kiddy match on Saturday with a sense of trepidation that the job is so nearly done but, ultimately, isn’t finished.

Their home form, which was unshakable in the first half of the campaign, has taken a dip.

The 1-0 defeat on Stoneham Lane against Dover Athletic is recent proof of that, even though the performance was there, the killer goal wasn’t forthcoming.

However, Eastleigh have a team that is skilled in the art of promotion and important games.

No fewer than 13 of the Spitfires’ team have vast experience of promotions from a number of divisions, including the hallowed step from non-league to Football League.

So, while fans might be feeling nervous, the team continues to be in very safe hands with Hill.

“The fans have been great, they have been all along,” he said, after defeating the Imps – their ninth away win in 11 games.

“There’s been a few that have been quite critical towards me, with team selection, substitutions and everything else.

“But, the ones who have been critical now understand what I’m trying to do.

“Just because I don’t play the same team every week, just because I change it, just because we try and do things.

“They’re great towards me now and they’re brilliant. At the moment it’s great to be an Eastleigh fan.”
