Hampshire's Justin Rose produced stunning back-to-back chips-ins during his second round at the Open Championships at Hoylake to leave himself well in contention going into the weekend.
He shot a confident round of 70 that takes him to two-under for the championship.
Rose, who is aiming for a hat-trick of tournament wins after victory at the Scottish Open and the Quicken Loans National, navigated tricky morning conditions at Royal Liverpool to leave him well placed.
The 33-year-old started his round with six straight pars before a wayward tee shot on the 7th led to his first dropped shot of the day.
However, he responded in brilliant fashion by chipping in on the par three 9th and then sinking a monster putt to record a three shot swing in two holes.
The only negative on the back nine was when Rose found trouble off the tee, forcing him to take a drop and subsequently take a bogey on the 14th. But a birdie on the 18th was the perfect way to finish a solid round in blustery conditions that kept him right up with the main contenders.
The US Open Champion looks well placed for the weekend given the fact conditions are expected to worsen during the afternoon.
