Southampton light-heavyweight Chris Hobbs calls out south coast rival
6:00am Wednesday 19th March 2014 in Sport
Southampton light-heavyweight Chris Hobbs has named the south coast rival who’s in his sights.
Hobbs heads to Portsmouth this Saturday looking to extend his unbeaten record to five fights.
He’s matched with Ian Jackson – and hopes beating the tough-as-old-boots journeyman will lead to more big fights in 2014.
His targets include Danny Couzens, from Titchfield.
“I wouldn’t mind boxing him,” said Hobbs. “He’s been making a lot of noise but he doesn’t impress me.
“I have to give Danny credit. He does fight anyone put in front of him, but a lot of them then beat him! “I leave who I fight up to Michael Ballingall and Mickey Helliet to sort out, they’ve not done a bad job so far. We know what route I’m taking.”
That route could be blocked by another pair of south coast fighters.
Tony Hill and Joel McIntyre are in the same weight division as Hobbs and are also based on the south coast. “I’m just starting out but down the line who knows?
“In the future we could end up fighting, but we will just have to see what happens, first I have to attend to the fight I have coming up.”
Hobbs produced a career-best performance to outpoint Mitch Mitchell last month and said: “We are working on a lot of things in the gym and I feel it’s all coming together very well.
“I’m hoping to improve again with this fight, so far everything has gone to plan and I’m definitely looking forward to the future.”
Tickets for the show are available from 07517-121544.
