FOR many years, Hursley residents campaigned for a 30mph speed limit through the village.
Now they are being invited to help in making sure it is obeyed as part of the Community Speedwatch scheme.
It is being launched after Hampshire Constabulary met Hursley Parish Council members and it works by police and volunteers checking the speeds of cars.
Any that are going too fast are logged in a database and drivers receive a warning letter to their home, or their firm if it is a company vehicle.
Motorists caught three times by the community scheme could then find themselves in court.
Volunteers must be at least 17-years-old and will receive training from police after a vetting process. Visit www.hursleyvillage.info/communityspeedwatch.html for more details.
