A HAMPSHIRE village has been profiled from top to bottom as parish chiefs look to improve local life.

Upham residents were quizzed for dozens of opinions, habits and improvements to the village near Bishop's Waltham to inform a new action plan.

Almost half of locals responded to the survey.

Our Village, Our Voice took two-and-a-half years and over £1,200 to complete, with a series of meetings, exhibitions and surveys held to profile Upham's 663 residents.

They most valued their tranquillity, church, Post Office and shops, with more than half raising strong concerns about road maintenance.

Upham retains a strong community spirit, with 53 per cent visiting the village hall several times a year and 43 per cent attending services at the Church of the Blessed Mary.

Other concerns raised include flood prevention, dog litter and the effect of heavy delivery vehicles driving through the village.

Sixty-one per cent of over-50s favoured new affordable homes - which are set to be built across two village sites by 2020 - compared to just one-in-three younger villagers. Almost nine in 10 younger residents found the village warm and welcoming, compared with two-thirds of the older group.

Upham Parish Council drew a list of 22 actions including speed limit cuts, supporting local produce, recycling and lobbying for better broadband signal.
