YOUNGSTERS in a village near Winchester were given a crash course in saving a life.
More than two-dozen girls from a brownies group in Kings Worthy took the part in the Royal Lifesaving Society (RLSS) programme.
The evening course, which was held at St Mary’s Church Hall, taught the youngsters how to assess a casualty, put them into the recovery position and then call 999 and relay the information correctly. They also performed chest compressions on a manikin.
Julia Passingham, RLSS trainer, said: “I was very impressed with the ability level in this age group.
“It is a fact that children of this age readily take on board new life skills which they will retain for most of their life.
“I feel there is a strong case for including life support and first aid into the national curriculum.”
