DROXFORD parish chiefs have rejected calls to build a speed monitor near a proposed housing development.

Residents near Garrison Hill want a speed warning device and traffic counter to be installed on the A32 if permission is granted to bulldoze Upland Park Hotel and replace it with 20 homes.

They worry that an influx of neighbours could cause congestion or speeding on the main road through the village.

Droxford Parish Council rejected the idea on the advice of highways bosses, who said installing a speed device was not possible on major roads like the A32.
