WORKS have begun to replace street lights in a parish near Winchester.
Hampshire County Council has started replacing some of Colden Common's lights to make way for modern eco-friendly technology.
The new lights will have a reduced amount of carbon emissions, and can be dimmed by 25 per cent between 12am-5am through a centrally-located control.
The so-called 'white lights' are claimed to improve visibility and will have less of an impact on light pollution.
The move has pushed Colden Common Parish Council to consider replacing a further 101 lights in the parish, of which they own.
