POLICE have issued an appeal after a statue of a goose was taken from a roundabout.

Hampshire Constabulary launched a witness appeal after the disappearance of the ceramic from Bishops Waltham, which has mystified residents and upset local children.

It was a tribute to Davina the goose, who caused traffic mayhem and was re-homed after refusing to leave the Winchester Road roundabout.

Before its disappearance on Friday the statue was joined by a selection of other toys, prompting hundreds of posts on social media from residents.

Local businessman Neil Cornmell, who bought it, said: “It is a shame about the goose but there's always someone.

“It has upset the local kids a bit.”

However, the 45-year-old, who owns Waltham Black Chimney Sweeping, said that the town may pull together to buy another one.

He also said he has spoken to the Bishop's Waltham Parish Council about fundraising to have a permanent tribute in place for the goose.

As the Daily Echo reported in February, Davina was famous for holding up traffic and attacking cars, prompting complaints and admiration in equal measure.

After being relocated to Denmead Poultry, owner Andrew Rafferty revealed Davina was really a male. She is now known as David.

Residents have responded will to the ceramic’s arrival on April 1, Bishop's Waltham Parish Council said. Chairman Tracy Conduct said that she loved the statue and said there were no plans to remove it.

A JustGiving page is to be set up later this week to fund another tribute.
