A WOMAN who found a decades-old photo in the back of a frame bought at a car boot sale is now hoping to reunite it with its original owner.

Jeanette Hallum, from Winchester, bought the bargain photo frame for 50p during a visit to the car boot sale in Bordon last month.

The 66-year-old was amazed to find a black and white photograph of a sailor in formal military dress hidden behind the backboard of a photo frame when she got it home.

Upon closer inspection of the old photograph, Jeanette’s partner pointed out the peak in the sailor’s hat, indicating that he would have been a naval officer at the time the picture was taken.

The photograph reminded Jeanette of a similar picture she has of her father dressed in his sailor’s cap and uniform.

She said: “I walk past his picture every day and I miss him every day.”

She believes that the similarities in the two pictures mean they would have been taken during the same period.

Hampshire Chronicle:

Jeanette is now on a mission to reunite the photograph of the sailor with his family and hopes that by sharing the picture, someone may recognise the officer and bring him back to his original home.

She said: “He must mean something to someone…he doesn’t deserve to be discarded.”

Jeanette, who runs a pottery painting business called Totally Potty, also hopes that reuniting the photograph with its owner will bring a sense of comfort to the family members of the officer, in the same way she feels comfort looking at the picture of her father.

She added: "I want him to find his home.”
