LAWRIE McMenemy will be guest of honour for Team Solent’s Friday night (November 13) showdown against Sydenhams Premier leaders Salisbury.
Prior to the 7.45pm kick-off, the Saints legend will open a new covered standing area at the Southampton Solent University side's Test Park HQ in Lower Brownhill Road, Southampton.
Salisbury – risen from the ashes of the old Conference National club – have a huge following and Solent are hopeful of attracting a 400-plus crowd.
Team Solent chairman Bill Moore said: “Being a university side, we don’t have too much of a following in terms of supporters, so we thought that by playing the game on a Friday night it might attract a few interested locals, plus a few ground-hoppers and some supporters of other teams.
“The league have told us to expect 300-400 from Salisbury and we’re hoping we might get a bigger crowd than the 350-400 that watched us play AFC Bournemouth in the Hampshire Senior Cup last year.”
Solent, currently mid-table, are due to play a rearranged fixture at Bournemouth Poppies tomorrow evening (Tuesday). The original game fell foul of a bizarre postponement in August when the Students turned up at Victoria Park with the same red kit as Poppies and Bournemouth’s away strip was in the launderette!
