FAREHAM Town’s great escape from Sydenhams Premier Division relegation is on.

Matt Parr’s side won their game in hand 2-1 against Newport IoW at Cams Alders last night to pull themselves out of the bottom two on goal difference from Christchurch.

With just one game to go, Totton & Eling are back at the bottom of the pile with 28 points and, with the worst goal difference of the three, the Millers need victory at Horndean on Saturday to stand any hope of survival.

Christchurch have a major job on their hands at home to second-placed Winchester City, while Fareham travel to Andover Town who beat Brockenhurst 2-0 at The Portway last night.

Fareham took the lead against Newport with a 37th-minute Callum Laycock penalty which was snuffed out by Aidan Sainsbury early in the second half.

But Town kept going and it was Ashley Tattersall who popped up with a priceless winner with 17 minutes remaining.

The night’s other Sydenhams Premier fixture ended in a 0-0 stalemate between Horndean and Verwood at Five Heads Park.

Elsewhere, Poole Town regained top spot in the Southern Premier Division with a cagey 0-0 draw at Weymouth.

They have overtaken Corby Town on goal difference ahead of their last-day title showdown with the Steelmen at Tatnam on Saturday.
