AND so the dream continues.
Like a giant, demented cockatoo, Jedward proceed to bluff their way through Britain’s biggest singing contest.
Personally, I think they are great. I see them as revolutionaries, firebrands in the death of reality TV.
If the twins make it through to the final of X Factor – and I have a funny feeling they might – the show would lose any shred of credibility that remains.
Think about it. How could the show continue if real singing talent such as Danyl Johnson and Stacey Solomon were given the boot over yet another giddy-camp performance from Beavis and Butthead.
It couldn’t and thus, rejoice. We would all get our weekend evenings back.
However that is a situation that remains in the future.
For now we have to deal with Lucie Jones.
She was voted out of last week’s show – a decision, based on the 600 or so fans gathered in Oceana, which may have been misjudged.
Lucie sang four songs. The crowd screamed and cheered and took pictures – although I suspect this was down to the fact that the majority of the audience had enjoyed a few drinks.
As she worked through her set her voice warmed up and fell into tune. Granted, she could hold a note but, as seems to be the case with all of the X Factor rejects, she had the charisma and stage presence of a cardigan.
Her voice was powerful, smooth and delightfully naïve, but after the second song I was feeling bored, unimpressed and strangely numb.
My mind wandered back to the energy and charisma of the twins and how much I was looking forward to seeing their performance on the weekend.
And I suspect it was for this reason that Lucie, despite her ability to sing, was playing Oceana this week, and not Jedward.
Which, from my point of view at least, was not a bad thing.
