Business centre plan to create 150 jobs at Daedalus airfield

Hampshire Chronicle: How the Innovation Centre at Daedalus could look How the Innovation Centre at Daedalus could look

MULTI-million pound plans for a new business centre in Hampshire creating 150 jobs has been unveiled today.

Fareham Borough Council has submitted plans to build a £5.3m new Innovation Centre at Daedalus airfield - now a designated Enterprise Zone.

Civic chiefs hope it will spark a wave of advanced manufacturing with a focus on the engineering, aerospace, aviation and marine industries.

If approved it will provide new office space and workshop facilities geared up for those specific sectors.

The proposed development is part of large scale investment at Daedalus, which includes improvements to the runway and new hangar space.

It comes as Fareham College prepares to open a new Centre for Engineering and Manufacturing Advanced Skills Training (CEMAST) on site in Autumn.

The plans for the Innovation Centre will be on display at the Crofton Community Action Team meeting on Tuesday February 11 at Holy Rood Church, Gosport Road, Stubbington, from 7pm to 8pm.

Residents will be able to have their say and ask any questions.

The application will be considered at a planning committee meeting in March. If approved, work on the project could start in May. Developers Bouygues have been chosen to construct the Centre.

Executive Leader of Fareham Borough Council, Councillor Seán Woodward, said: “These latest plans could see state of the art business facilities at Daedalus and the creation of highly skilled local jobs.

“I'd encourage people to go along to the next Crofton Community Action Team Meeting (CAT) and have their say on the plans.”

I welcome the investment , But who wants to move here with the problems with the traffic , It is only a couple of miles from the motorway but At times it is a crawl to get anywhere , I can see this being a complete white elephant

Woodward's a moron. According to reports, his council is turfing out existing businesses to make way for this pice of extravagance whilst all over the bourough, other business areas have empty buildings. Fill up what you have first and leave the businesses already there alone! Idiot....
