JAMIE Mackie was thrilled to score a dramatic last-gasp winner, but said a vital three points for Oxford United was far more important than personal glory.

The striker came off the bench to fire home in the 94th minute in a 1-0 victory at home to Bradford City.

Mackie’s goal stemmed from a quickly-taken goal kick, leading to a controversial end to the Sky Bet League One fixture.

Four minutes of confusion ensued as referee Andy Davies initially disallowed the strike and ordered the goal kick to be retaken.

Mackie’s effort was eventually allowed to stand and, with the U’s climbing out of the relegation zone as a result, the 33-year-old was under no illusions about the importance of the win.

He said: “To be honest, if it had been a tap-in from anyone it’s irrelevant really, it’s three points.

“It was a great goal, a great first touch and good strike, but the emotion was because we scored.

“I thought the lads deserved to win, they were probing the whole game.

“To do it like that was massive. It was a six-pointer, we had to win and we won it.”

Mackie showed great composure to rifle home past goalkeeper Richard O’Donnell during a frantic late attack.

He added: “It’s great playing in front of all the fans, but you’re not thinking that much when you’re playing.

“It’s about being calm, and I’m just glad I popped up with any goal.”
