Winchester City strengthened their hold on third place with a second 4-1 victory over AFC Stoneham this season.

The Isthmian League South Central Division fixture was played at AFC Stoneham with the visitors taking control early, surviving one scare and held a two-goal advantage at half-time before finishing a comfortable local-derby win.

Winchester made two changes from Saturday, with Wilf Hawes replacing Luke King and Lewis Brown coming in for Jez Bedford, who dropped to the bench.

The substitutes also included Blu Sexton-Chadwick, Scott Bungay, Archie Whitfield and Dan Jones, who returned to the squad.

In the opening minute, Brad Waters broke clear and rounded the goalkeeper, but his effort was cleared for a corner.

The hosts were punished in the 13th minute when Hawes delivered into the area and Callum Baughan headed home.

Kyle Tooze then went close to an equaliser, shooting wide with Danny Dixon out of position.

A corner was not cleared in the 21st minute; after the ball struck a post, George Milner-Smith headed in.

Tooze reduced the deficit in the 32nd minute, meeting Lewis Nagle's cross with a well-struck shot.

The visitors restored their two-goal cushion before the interval when Ollie Balmer set up Brown to score.

Bedford replaced Lewis Ross at half-time, and the away side survived an early second-half scare when Dan Bradshaw's effort hit the crossbar.

Bedford then followed up a Balmer effort to score Winchester's fourth, ending any realistic hopes of a comeback.

The remainder was largely comfortable, with Stoneham unable to create a sustained response.

Winchester made four further substitutions, with Jones and Sexton-Chadwick replacing Tom Bragg and Bradshaw, before Bungay came on for Waters and Whitfield replaced Balmer.

The result keeps the visitors third in the division and completes their second 4-1 win against the same opponents this campaign.

Stoneham, despite cup success and a win over Raynes Park, remain near the bottom.
