A day of friendly rivalry teed up another memorable win.
Juniors clinched a back-to-back victory at Wellow Golf Club’s second edition of the Juniors vs Adults Ryder Cup, held on September 6.
The young Team Europe side took on Team USA, made up of parents, grandparents, captains, committee members, and club stalwarts.
Neil Brading, junior organiser at Wellow Golf Club, said: "Events like these have become a regular and much-loved part of life at Wellow Golf Club. They’re only possible thanks to the incredible support from club management, the Men's, Ladies', and Senior sections, and most importantly the families of our Junior members.
"Today was a brilliant showcase of the camaraderie and community spirit that make our Junior Section thrive. While organising events of this scale takes a great deal of time and effort, the rewards are immeasurable. The integration and social connections built through days like this play a vital role in helping our Juniors transition into adult golf.
"With the continued backing of Club Captain Jamie Hughes and Ladies Captain Sarah Hornby, we’re already seeing more Juniors proudly representing the Men’s and Ladies’ sections in matches and club competitions. It’s a testament to what can be achieved when a club comes together to support its young players."
The day began with foursomes on the Ryedown Course, where 56 players teed off in sunshine to the sound of lively music.
The juniors, led by Mr Brading, won the first two matches, but Team USA rallied to finish the morning session tied at 7–7.
After a European and American-themed lunch from the club’s catering team, the action moved to the Embley Course for fourball better ball, followed by singles matchplay on the back nine of the Blackwater Course.
The juniors quickly gained momentum, winning the first four matches and holding their lead through a series of close contests.
They finished the singles 17–11 and secured a 34–22 overall victory, marking their second consecutive win in the event.
Joe Hiscock was named Most Valuable Player after winning in all three formats.
Phil "The Legend" Hill received special recognition for his service as section treasurer.
Other prize winners included Jack Male (Juniors), Sally Huffam (Ladies), and Jon Sims (Men) for Nearest the Pin, and Andy Stevenson and Les Turner (Adults) for best dressed.
