Winchester City Swimming Club (WCSC) continues to showcase its excellence in competitive swimming, achieving remarkable success at this year’s Hampshire County Championships.

The club saw 99 swimmers qualify for the event, delivering an impressive performance with 104 finals appearances and a total of 96 medals. Its medal haul included 33 Gold, 27 Silver, and 36 Bronze medals, reinforcing WCSC’s reputation as one of the leading clubs in the region.

“These results highlight the dedication and hard work of our swimmers, coaches, and support teams,” said head coach Ben Reid. “Our continued success demonstrates the strength of our training programmes and the commitment of our athletes to push their limits.”

Meanwhile, WCSC looks forward to returning to delivering a full Learn to Swim programme this month as Kings School Pool in Winchester reopens following a period of renovation. This is an exciting development for both the school and the club, as the pool has undergone significant improvements, including a new lining, a new boiler pump, and general cosmetic enhancements, modernising the facility and making it more sustainable. The club will also continue to run lessons out of Oaklands Pool in Southampton.

As a community club providing a pathway for all levels and abilitiesfrom learner swimmers through to the Masters programme for experienced swimmers, WCSC is excited to welcome David Smith as the new CEO. With a strong background in education, David is a squad parent and has also qualified as both a swim teacher and swim coach.

In his welcome note to the club community, David Smith stated: "We have an incredible facility at Winchester Sport and Leisure Park, and our Open Meets team have put on some superb events attracting swimming clubs from all over the country. Winchester is increasingly regarded as one of the premier venues for hosting higher-level swim meets - helping to boost the local economy and raising awareness of Winchester City Swimming Club as a force to be reckoned with."

David officially started with the club on Monday, April 14.

WCSC, as an inclusive community club, remains focused on providing multiple pathways for swimmers of all abilities, to enable them to achieve their goals. With this momentum, the club looks forward to further success at upcoming regional and national competitions but starting with our young swimmers and giving them the confidence to love to swim.
