Paul McCallum heads the National League goal scoring charts after his midweek brace fired Eastleigh to a 2-1 win over Boreham Wood and to within two points of the play-off zone.

He increased his tally for the season to 15 with a 14th minute opener and a stunning winning goal early in the second half.

The Spitfires, who thrashed an out of sorts Boreham Wood 5-1 in the FA Cup three weeks ago, were the better side throughout.

McCallum's opener was created by Enzio Boldewijn, who received the ball on the right wing  and dribbled it towards the box before laying it off into the path of McCallum, who sent a curling shot past Nathan Ashmore.

Eastleigh's lead was short lived, Tyrone Marsh equalising for the visitors four minutes later following a spate of corners.

But three minutes into the second half McCallum struck a gem of a winner - meeting Aiden Barlow's corner with an acrobatic volley which screamed into the net.

Chris Maguire, who limped out of Saturday's win over Altrincham with a knee injury, missed the match and is due to undergo a scan on his injury this week.

He will miss Saturday's demanding visit to table topping Chesterfield but, depending on the outcome of his scan, is hopeful of playing in the FA Cup tie against Reading on Sunday week.
