Burridge continue to keep leaders St Cross Symondians within their sights ahead of a potential 'winner take all' showdown for the ECB Southern Premier League championship at Botley Road on Saturday week, September 2.

The gap between the pair is six points after 16 rounds of matches, Burridge easing to a five-wicket win at Bournemouth while St Cross, the defending champions, were thrashing the bottom club, Totton & Eling by a thumping 154 runs.

Inayat Ullah (3-17), Oli Southon (3-22) and Ben White (2-28) exploited the early bowler friendly conditions to have Bournemouth reeling at 38-6, teenager left-hander Ben Rogers (19) making half of them.

Teenager Connor Smith (25) and Jake Hurley rallied as Bournemouth clambered to 99 all out.

The Lions hit back. Cole Rushforth (2-28) removed Joe Collings-Wells' middle stump and had Sho Chowdhury caught behind first ball. A successful leg before appeal by Dan Conway left Burridge 20-3 and with work to do.

Leading SPL run scorer Mat Goles kept Burridge afloat, his 67-run stand with Will Donald taking the title challengers to within touching distance of victory.

The ninth over of the innings was the turning point - the South African opener dumping Dan Conway for three sixes and two fours in a blistering 26-run over.

Tom Willoughby kept Bournemouth's hopes alive with two late wickets, but Goles won the day with his unbeaten 63 which included six maximums.
