KENT star Zak Crawley described his match-winning century at Ageas Bowl as "immensely enjoyable", adding: "They always produce favourable wickets."

Crawley, who hit a double Test hundred for England at the same ground earlier this summer, swept Hampshire aside in the Vitality Blast.

The opener notched an incredible unbeaten 108, as Spitfires chased down their target of 182 for victory with 17 balls to spare.

“That was immensely enjoyable," said Crawley.

"I have quite fond memories here and they always produce favourable wickets and this was no different.

“The top six overs are very important for us, and me and Deebz (Daniel Bell-Drummond) have spoken about going at them hard and putting the other team under pressure. It won’t work every time but it has worked well so far.

“I felt in good nick. It wasn’t premeditated at all, I just tried to play everything on its merits.

“I tried to hit it square as it was a little slow. So I thought if I could beat the point and square then I would have more success. That was my only thought.

“It was a big goal of mine to score a T20 hundred so I am very thankful I have been able to do it.

“It is pretty hard to do. You need to be batting in the top three and have a big day out."

And Hampshire head coach Adi Birrell offered no excuses for the eight-wicket defeat, which knocked his side out of the competition.

"He (Crawley) played out of his skin," said Birrell.

"It was a fabulous knock and we didn't have any answers to him.

"We thought 182 was a decent total - at halfway I thought that was 15 too many and so did they when I spoke to their coaching staff after the game.

"We haven't been batting well but I was thrilled with the way we batted and finished.

"We asked them to be brave and play positively and even though we lost a wicket in the first over we rebuilt and accelerated towards the end.

"I was disappointed after Lord's but I'm not too disappointed where someone has outplayed us with a fabulous innings. Sometimes you just have to doff your hat.

"The first ball went for four when they batted and it never stopped.

"Full credit to him. He came out batting in a brave way playing proper cricket shots and it came off. It was a very good innings."
