Mason Crane and Liam Dawson spun Hampshire to a third successive Vitality Blast win.

The spin twins replicated their middle-over removal service from 24 hours earlier, having stunned Essex at Chelmsford, to claim figures of three for 20 and three for 11 respectively.

The pair were backed by South African overseas Chris Morris’ two for 21 as Hampshire won by 41 runs – leaving Glamorgan winless at the bottom of the South Group.

Hampshire set Glamorgan 129 to win after James Vince had won the toss and decided to bat on a sun-kissed evening at The Ageas Bowl.

A lack of fluency had marred the hosts' innings due to a combination of a slow wicket and long boundaries – and the visitors found batting even more difficult.

Fakhar Zaman couldn’t build on his 58 against Gloucestershire as Chris Wood, whose first two overs went for just two, had him caught at first slip to the third ball of the innings.

Colin Ingram was duped by the slow nature of the pitch as he threw his hands at Kyle Abbott, but struck straight at short cover.

As against Essex the previous night, Hampshire’s twirlers throttled Glamorgan after the powerplay.

Left-armer Dawson bowled Billy Root, who was attempting to scoop, and Chris Cooke in consecutive overs.

At the other end, leg-spinner Crane tempted David Lloyd into a slog-sweep, which was caught on the deep mid-wicket boundary, before Dan Douthwaite was stumped – leaving Glamorgan 63 for six.

Jeremy Lawlor and Merchant de Lange both picked out long-on as the required rate climbed.

Graham Wagg was yorked and Dawson bowled Lukas Carey.

Earlier, Glamorgan used their inside knowledge of their former prodigy Aneurin Donald’s game, to have the Welshman smartly caught on the square-leg boundary.

It took 22 balls until the first boundary, one of only eight in the innings, when Rilee Rossouw clubbed over midwicket.

Next ball he was bowled by de Lange to give the bowler his 100th T20 wicket in his 88th appearance, before Sam Northeast was stumped.

Vince followed his volcanic 87 against Essex on Thursday with a 21-ball 25 but his frustrations showed with a top-edged hoick to long-on.

Morris, James Fuller and Dawson all found the boundary before a crucial late cameo from Lewis McManus, which included the sole maximum of the innings, took Hampshire to what appeared a below-par 128 for seven.

Hampshire wicketkeeper Lewis McManus said: “We assessed after the powerplay that it wasn’t the easiest wicket to bat on and we weren’t sure what a good score was.

“But we scrapped for every run and then our spinners bowled very well in the middle overs to defend a low total.

“I consciously came out and tried to be aggressive between the wickets. My role is to finish games off or get us to a good total.

“Glamorgan have some dangerous batsman, so Woody getting a big wicket in the first over got us going and then the spinners have done brilliantly again.

“I grew up with Mason and had a few stumpings off him over the years. It is great fun and allows us to play T20 cricket differently here.

“Those two either hold the run-rate down or take wickets in the middle overs.

“We knew we were playing good cricket but not playing to our full potential. When we really click it will be interesting to see how far we can go in this competition.”

Glamorgan head coach Matt Maynard said: “We’ve been bowled out for two thirds of their score, so we are disappointed.

“We needed a partnership to get us to 60 for one or two and then one more partnership almost sees you home.

“We know we have a good batting line up but it is not firing at the moment.

“We have had some decent performances so far but as a batting group we haven’t clicked in any game.

“Even when we got 170 in my mind that should be 190. We have missed opportunities.

“We were excellent in the field and Zaman bowled brilliantly, so we wanted to get through the powerplay 40 for one but to lose the skipper got their tails up.

“Daws and Crane do what they do and we aren’t the first side to come here and suffer that fate – they complement each other well.”

THE TURNING POINT: For the second night in a row, the moment James Vince threw the ball to Liam Dawson and Mason Crane. After five for 55 against Essex, the duo shared joint figures of six for 33.

DELIVERY OF THE MATCH: Mason Crane found outlandish leg-spin to beat Dan Douthwaite, before Lewis McManus whipped off the bails. The outstanding delivery was matched by a celebration fit for Cristiano Ronaldo.

UNSUNG HERO: Lewis McManus’s 23 off 13 balls was headlined by a sweetly-struck six off his pads, but his quick and intelligent running showed his Hampshire teammates how they should have batted. The runs were invaluable in the end.

WHAT’S NEXT? Hampshire continue their run of three games in four days with a visit to Beckenham to face Kent on Sunday, 3pm start.
