SAINTS are amongst the Premier League’s elite when it comes to miles travelled during pre-season.

Ralph Hasenhuttl and five of his senior Saints players will travel nearly 15,000 miles this summer, with commercial giants Manchester United topping the list on just under 20,000 miles

The majority of Saints’ mileage comes from their short stint in China.

United, on the other hand, will be jetting off to Australia, Malaysia and China before returning home.

Saints begin their pre-season at Staplewood at the beginning of next month before they embark on a host of trips and fixtures.

First up, is a 1,500-mile round trip to Austria for a week-long training camp which culminates in a game against SCR Altach at the Stadion Schnabelholz.

Following that, Hasenhuttl and his players will return to Staplewood to continue their preparation for next season.

At the end of their week in Southampton, the St Mary’s side will then head north 254 miles to Preston’s Deepdale ground.

And then this is when it gets a bit more complicated, as the players will split up for a short amount of time.

Saints chief Hasenhuttl and his assistant Danny Rohl, along with five senior players and a group of youngsters, will head to Macau to play a match in front of club owner Gao Jisheng.

Assuming they leave from Manchester, this leg of pre-season will see them rack up just over 12,000 miles in total.

After playing against Guangzhou, they will immediately begin their journey to Dublin to link up with the rest of the squad.

Their week in Ireland will end with another trip. This time, it’s to Holland for a friendly against Feyenoord at De Kuip.

Because they are flying straight there from Dublin and returning to Southampton, the trip totals just over 1,100 miles.

They will be spending the final two weeks at Staplewood, with a game at St Mary’s nestled in between against FC Koln.
