Saints will have to pay around £14m to land Birmingham striker Che Adams, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Ralph Hasenhuttl's interest in the player was reported in the Daily Echo at the beginning of June, with there yet to be any further developments.

Adams had a stellar season for Birmingham last year, ending the campaign as the club's player of the year and their top scorer.

Saints tried to sign the 22-year-old in January, only for the Championship side to reject their offer of £10m.

The Daily Telegraph claims that the St Mary's outfit have had a further bid rebuked since the transfer window opened on 16 May.

Having already tied up a deal for Moussa Djenepo on a four-year contract, Hasenhuttl is keen to move on and land his other targets.

It's understood that Adams tops the list of players that he wants to sign in the striker department.

The Austrian is keen to get deals over the line for new signings before the squad report for pre-season next month.
