ST HELENS under 11s have won the 2019 Merseyside District League.

They have had an amazing season, taking into account that eight months ago they did not exist.

Formed in September - the representative team draws players from across the borough.

They have finished top after playing games against Liverpool, Knowsley, Sefton, Wirral and West Lancs.

They have won the league and now face runners up Sefton in the Everton Trophy Final at Goodison Park on Monday on the same night that the St Helens u11 boys will contest their final.

Ian Latta, who coaches the team along with Rick Waine, is delighted with the girls' achievement.

He said: "I am super proud of a very special group of talented players.

"We have started from scratch as the team did not exist last year and had people turn up to trials via word of mouth back in July.

"The team are now champions but on Monday night they get the chance for another trophy.

"They will get the full treatment too, team talk in the dressing room, walking out through the Everton players entrance."

The match is a nine-aside, 30 minute encounter.

Supporters are welcome to attend.

Tickets are available for Goodison at a price of £3 - and the game kicks off at 5.45pm.
