Saints are likely to be without Danny Ings until the game with Tottenham Hotspur next month.

The striker limped off the pitch with a hamstring injury in the first half of the 1-1 draw with Burnley at Turf Moor.

Ings didn’t travel with the squad to Tenerife due to not being fit enough and Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl confirmed he won’t make the trip to Arsenal.

Hasenhuttl said: “Danny Ings is still out and needs more time.

“Arsenal is too early and for Man United he can be close, but I expect him to be back for the Tottenham game.”

Despite Ings’ setback, Saints will be boosted by the return of duo Stuart Armstrong and Michael Obafemi.

Armstrong missed the last-minute defeat to Cardiff with a slight muscular injury but travelled with the squad to Tenerife.

Obafemi, who signed a new three-and-a-half-year deal with the club earlier in the week, has been out of action since December.

The striker suffered a hamstring injury after scoring his first Premier League goal for Saints against Huddersfield.

Hasenhuttl added: “Michael Obafemi trained the whole two weeks with the team and it seems his muscle problems are gone and he’s a good option for me.

“Stuart Armstrong is also back on the pitch with no problems these over these last two weeks.

“Mario Lemina still isn’t training with the team and has problems, but it’s getting better and better.”
