Two generations of Halterworth Harriers were racing this weekend in the New Forest. New Park Farm near Brockenhurst was the venue for the annual New Forest ten mile race.

Jack Lochray, Michael Arnott and Frances Arnott took part in the one mile fun run for ages 14 and under prior to the New Forest 10 mile race.

In an exciting sprint finish to the line Jack snatched victory in the final few yards. Michael followed a few places behind with Frances the second girl home.

Following the recent wet weather, competitors in the main event were relieved to be racing on a beautiful summer morning. The clouds had finally cleared to make way for the sunshine and some ideal running conditions. The route along the Forest's gravel paths ran through some particularly scenic areas with wonderful views of the countryside and wildlife.

The weather and surroundings brought out a large crowd of spectators to cheer the runners on as they raced along the forest paths.

Ian Lochray and Dave Arnott were competing for the Harriers. Ian finished the course in one hour and six minutes with Dave coming in after one hour and fourteen.

The event was a great success and extremely well organised with plenty of entertainment laid on for spectators and competitors.
