North Baddesley (160-5) beat Burley (159-9).

North Baddesley got their season back under way with a visit to Burley. Batting first, they suffered an immediate setback, losing Neil Williams before a run had been scored.

Steve Carter and Amjad Parvaiz set about restoring the innings with a painstaking partnership of 51 on an unpredictable wicket, before Carter was dismissed for 22. Revie followed soon after, but debutante Prem Kumar and Parvaiz took the total past the 100 mark, before Parvaiz fell for a fine 57.

Kumar added 50 for the fifth wicket with skipper Richard Williams (19) and the innings closed at 160 for 5, with Kumar undefeated on 40; Mike Green (2-22) Les Browning (2-49).

Burley also lost a quick wicket, Carter holding a superb return catch to dismiss Hudson, but Browning and Wayne Tucker seemed to have set Burley well on the way to victory, adding 74 for the second wicket, before Browning fell to John Fisher for 57. His innings contained 10 fours and a six as he plundered the visitors' attack. His dismissal proved a turning point in the game as Fisher and Parvaiz squeezed the Burley run rate.

Wickets fell steadily, Fisher taking 2 for 46 and Parvaiz 3 for 33, so that the hosts went into the final over on 157 for 9, with the father and son partnership of Martin and James Rapson needing four runs to win. Tight bowling from Martin Pike, backed by sharp and alert fielding, brought just two singles, the innings closing at 159 for 9, giving the ecstatic Baddesley side a dramatic one run win.
