Michelmersh and Timsbury Girls' good tournament run continued with a win at New Milton Eagles on Sunday (July 8).

M&T sent two strong teams to the tournament where the B team were unbeaten in the group stages without conceding a single goal, so were unlucky not to progress further.

The first game against Fawley Kestrels was a bruising 0-0 draw, with Bryony Barnes and Holly Hudson excelling in defence, and lively midfielder Hannah Dixon unlucky to see a goal-bound header blocked in the last minute.

A 1-0 win over Branksome Utd followed, with Chloe Hudson holding off two defenders to force home Dixon's pass.

Two frustrating 0-0 draws closed the group stage - a great break up the right by Naomi Maher saw Sophie Solloway shoot just wide against Christchurch, and chances were not converted in a one-sided match against hosts New Milton Eagles, although Dixon hit the post late on.

M&T B went out in a penalty shoot out with Christchurch - although Alice Holloway saved one Christchurch effort; all three M&T spot kicks were saved.

M&T A finished group runners-up after a 2-0 win over Testwood Utd with goals from Stacia Baigent and Laura Harris. There then followed goalless draws against Fawley Hawks and Mudeford Phoenix and a 1-1 draw with New Milton Seagulls - Libby Pritchard scoring from the spot.

The semi-final against Fawley Kestrels went to extra time and Abbie Delaney's late winner made the difference - an emphatic finish after she had been put clear by Jade Blakely.

The final was against league champions Mudeford Phoenix, and M&T had the upper hand, partly thanks to energetic defending by Lydia Manning who snuffed out several attacks, and Emily Digweed in goal was rarely troubled. The winner came late in the second half - Stacia Baigent crowned a barnstorming performance with a great shot from 15 yards out.
