IF the posters in gardens and windows was any indication, Jackie Porter would comfortably win the General Election in Winchester and Chandler’s Ford for the Liberal Democrats.

Her orange posters easily outnumber the blue ones for Tory Steve Brine.

There have been relatively few for the other four parties standing, Labour, the Greens, UKIP and the Justice and Anti-Corruption Party.

But it is votes in the ballot box that count and the bookies say Winchester and Chandler’s Ford is a safe seat for the Conservatives.

Most bookmakers are offering between 1/18-20 on for Mr Brine to keep the seat that he retained in 2015 with a 16,000-plus majority and more than 50 per cent of the vote.

Punters can back Mark Chaloner for Labour and the Justice and teresa Skelton of the Anti-Corruption Party at 150/1.

The Greens’ Andrew Wainwright and UKIP’s Martin Lyon are between 250 and 500/1.

The polling stations opened at 7am this morning and close at 10pm. The count will be at the River Park Leisure Centre in Hyde, Winchester, with the result expected to be announced at around dawn.

The votes for Meon Valley are also being counted at the centre with the result expected to be announced before Winchester’s.
