Only one in four families (25%) have ever baked a cake together.
From chocolate cornflake cakes to cookies and fairy cakes, these treats are often linked to children and their sweet tooth, and to busy but wholesome family moments; however, these sweet memories are not as universal as you might think.
The Dr. Oetker survey, which was commissioned as part of the Helping Families Rise campaign launch, has found many families don’t bake regularly, and that seven in 10 families have never decorated cakes together, while 66% of parents have never made fairy cakes with their children.

However, many families do want to bake with their children, but a lack of confidence and having the right equipment and ingredients were among the reasons they found it difficult to get started.
Presenter and mother of three Helen Skelton has teamed up with Dr. Oetker to launch the Helping Families Rise campaign, which is offering free baking classes as a part of a new charity partnership with Family Action.
"Some of the best family memories are created in the simplest moments and for so many families that could be baking together,” the 43-year-old said.

"It's not about creating the perfect bake. It's about spending time together, getting creative, having a laugh and sharing something you've made as a family. Those are often the moments children remember for years afterwards.
"I love that this partnership is helping more families discover the joy of baking together. Life is busy for everyone, so finding opportunities to connect as a family is incredibly important. Sometimes all it takes is an afternoon in the kitchen to create a memory that lasts a lifetime."
Helen has joined families in baking sessions along with former Great British Bake Off star Liam Charles on the Dr. Oetker Baking Bus, which will tour the UK offering free baking classes to families nationwide, with sessions led by the celebrity baking lovers.
Jen Johnson at Dr Oetker said: "Baking is about so much more than the finished bake. It brings families together, helps children develop everyday numeracy skills through measuring, weighing and counting, builds confidence and encourages creativity.
“We're proud to be working with Family Action to give more families the opportunity to experience the joy and benefits of baking."
Alyse Roberts at Family Action, said: "It's been fantastic to join forces with Dr. Oetker on a partnership that celebrates the joy of baking and the value of spending quality time together as a family.
"Together, we'll be delivering baking workshops across a number of our FOOD clubs, giving families the opportunity to learn new baking skills while spending quality time together. As well as building confidence in the kitchen, these sessions will create lasting memories and encourage families to enjoy and experiment with baking.
“We can't wait to see the delicious creations and special moments this partnership will inspire."
