THEY are the hubs of many communities.

Now many village halls and community centres across Hampshire have got a funding boost from the county council totalling more than £39,000.

Grant funding this financial year has been awarded to 11 community organisations and village hall trusts by executive member for culture and recreation, cllr Keith Chapman, at his decision day.

The money will go towards upkeep of buildings and improvements to ensure everyone has the best possible facilities available.

Grants include £665 to the Denmead Community Association, £12,500 to the Winnall Community Association, £3,321 to the Old Alresford Village Hall Trust and £859 to Sparsholt Memorial Hall Trust, all in Winchester district. Other recipients include £3,385 to Pilands Wood Community Association, in Eastleigh, £3,900 to Copythorne Parish Hall Trust, in the New Forest, £4,797 to Portchester Community Association, in Fareham, £500 to Romsey Abbey Parish Church Council and £2,298 to St Matthews Church Parish Council, in Gosport.

It totals £39,363.

A further £2,500 is also being made available to the Victoria Hall Trust, in Sutton Scotney, to support them in purchasing the car park next to the hall to ensure residents using the facilities continue to have parking.

Cllr Chapman said: “They play a significant role in their communities, providing people with venues and facilities for a wide variety of activities and bring together people of all ages.

“This funding shows how much we value their important contribution and the support that they provide for the work of the County Council.

“It’s important therefore, that the buildings and equipment remain in the best possible condition.”
