PETER Symonds College hosted its own homage to talent shows with “Symonds Got Talent”. The event was organised as part of a fundraiser by the college’s 2012 ‘Global Rock Team’.

The Rock Challenges event is the main fundraiser from the Be Your Best Foundation. The organisation encourages young people to lead healthy lifestyles, without drugs.

Competitors were invited perform in front of students whilst they were judged by a panel from the Global Rock Team. Looking at criteria ranging from choreography to set design. A cake sale was also held to raise additional funds.

Sam Ball, activities co-ordinator for the GR team said: “Global Rock is now a firm fixture in the activities programme.”

“The talent show is just one of the fun events that help the team’s fundraising efforts. As an activity it pulls together all sorts of people performers, organisers and doers and we are hoping the team efforts will wow the judges at this year’s heats in Southampton on February 29th. Fingers crossed it won’t be a one off for us this year – unlike the date!”

Winners of the Southampton heat will progress to the regional open final later in the year.

Preparations have already begun for their next performance, centred on a theme of Heroes and Villains.

The college Global Rock Team would like to hear from anyone interested in supporting costs of the production and the construction of portable scenery. Contact the college switchboard on 01962 857500.
