A Winchester councillor is calling on the city council to improve public toilets in Wickham.

Cllr Therese Evans, who represents the area on the city council, told a cabinet meeting the village’s public toilets were in need of major repair.

She said: “The Wickham toilets are in deteriorating condition. It will be disappointing for Wickham residents if these upgrades do not go ahead. There are a lot of people coming to Wickham so I hope that we will be able to identify some funding and include them in a programme for next year.”

It came as the cabinet unveiled their three-year major building plan last week which featured funding for toilet improvements in the Guildhall and Market Lane.

Cllr Evans added: “I do understand the reasons for the other investments but if you look at them on the whole there is not much going on outside mainstream Winchester.”

Council leader George Beckett said the council would look to repair the Wickham toilets should funding become available.
