FORMER police inspector John Heath from Hursley has died from a stroke aged 57.

Along with his career at Hampshire Constabulary, he also chaired the Totton-based charity, It’s Your Choice, for several years.

It provided advice, help, support and confidential counselling to young people aged 12 to 25 on a variety of issues.

Since retiring, he had also been part of the committee that looks after Hursley Parish Hall.

The building had a major upgrade two years ago, and the final payments to cover the project are now almost complete.

Committee chairman Keith Field said: “John was committed to supporting the village hall. Indeed, the new hall would not have been built without his and Chris Esplin-Jones’ determination.

“Personally, I will miss John’s friendship but also his invaluable support as treasurer. He was always on hand to advise or help and gave much of his time to ensure the custody of the village hall and its value to the village.”

John Heath died from a massive stroke on Thursday, January 20. His funeral will take place at 2.45pm on Tuesday, February 8 at Basingstoke Crematorium.

Afterwards, the funeral party will return to Hursley Parish Hall, and all friends and family are welcome to attend.
