BELLY dancing is often associated with exotic regions of Arabia and not usually a Winchester housing estate.
But now a new group has been launched at Stanmore Community Centre for women and girls who want to give it a try.
Sabrynah Ish, who has been performing on stage for eight years, is leading the new classes at the centre in Somers Close.
The first sessions took place on Saturday (January 22) with one for over 18s, and the other for younger dancers.
Around 20 people took part and the instructor said she planned to make the events a regular thing.
She said: “We really had a lot of fun and I think quite a few of the women saw it as a social thing and they’re already making friends.”
She plans to hold the next sessions for over 18s from 8 to 9pm on Tuesday, February 8 and 10 to 11am on Saturday, February 12.
There will also be a class for under 18s as the community centre from 11 to 12-noon on February 12.
