BEER is a subject that interests plenty of men, and the Hospital of St Cross hopes to benefit from that on Father’s Day.

The historic almshouse in Winchester is hosting an exhibition about brewing and selling souvenir bottles of Wayfarers Ale.

The hospital traditionally offers beer and bread to weary travellers, which is known as the Wayfarers’ Dole.

Originally claimed by the likes of religious pilgrims, today the practice is preserved as a tourist attraction.

The special Father’s Day tour on Sunday, June 20, includes a tour of the historic hospital, the brewing exhibition, and of course, the Wayfarers’ Dole.

The tour must be booked in advance by calling 01962 851375, visiting www.stcrosshospital.co.uk or emailing visitors@stcrosshospital.co.uk.
