HAMPSHIRE Students starting at Oxford University were invited to a special reception at P&G Wells Bookshop in Winchester.

The annual event saw around 30 students with offers from Oxford attended the event hosted by Oxford University Society Hampshire and Isle of Wight Branch to welcome students ahead of starting at the prestigious university.

The event was also attended by current undergraduates based in Hampshire, which gave freshers a chance to hear more about life at Oxford from current students, as well as meet other students in their year.

Crispin Drummond from OUS Hampshire and Isle of Wight said: "The society thought it was a good idea to celebrate the fact that a number of local people had successfully Got into Oxford. Many of the students were worried and welcomed the chance to touch base with other students. You could hear the joy in their voices as they found someone doing the same course or going to the same college. Everybody chatted 19 to the dozen and nobody left on time."

Oxford University Society Hampshire and Isle of Wight Branch is a non-profit organisation for educational and charitable purposes that organises activities for university alumni, alongside outreach events in collaboration with local schools and colleges aimed at encouraging potential Oxford applications from Hampshire.
