THREE people have been arrested on suspicion of immigration offences after a lorry driver raised the alarm.
Officers arrested two men and a woman, at least one of whom is Sudanese, in School Lane, Chandler’s Ford, yesterday afternoon.
A Home Office spokesperson said: “Immigration Enforcement was contacted by Hampshire Police after police officers attended an incident at School Lane, Chandler's Ford. Where someone has no right to remain in the UK, we will take action to remove them.”
It is understood that the alarm was raised by a lorry driver who was due to make a delivery to Selwood.
A Selwood spokesperson said: “A member of staff at the security gate alerted the police after the driver of a lorry – which had stopped before entering the site – raised concerns that there may be people in the vehicle.
“The matter was handled by the police, and the lorry that had been sent by a supplier from Germany was taken on to the site at Chandler's Ford.”
