AN ALERT has been issued over reports of "suspicious" carol singers in the Winchester district.
Police say a group of two women and two children have been acting suspiciously outside homes.
They are urging residents to check ID, adding that anyone collecting for charity will have ID and should have papers verified and stamped by Hampshire Police.
A police spokesperson said: "We are concerned about reports of suspicious Carol Singers - two older children and two women - who appear to be more interested in looking inside your doorway that singing carols.
"If you have these people, or anyone coming to your door purporting come to your door, please contact police on 101 immediately.
"Please have a safe, happy and crime free Christmas and New Year."
