A NEW retirement living development could be built in the Meon Valley.

Churchill Retirement Living has unveiled its plans for 29 apartments in Bishop's Waltham.

The developer is preparing a planning application for the site at Post Mead on Shore Lane.

The scheme would provide a mix of one and two bedroom apartments for the over 60s, with a lodge manager, 24 hour careline, lounge and landscaped grounds.

A public exhibition will be held at Bishops Waltham United Free Church on Basingwell Street Upper on June 14 from 5pm to 7pm, where members of the community will have the chance to see the proposals and meet members of the development team.

Andrew Burgess, planning director of Churchill Retirement Living said: "There is a real need for private retirement housing in the Bishops Waltham area. Our proposed development will go some way to increasing access to this type of housing for local residents.

" By meeting this rising demand, we can allow older people to downsize and free up under occupied houses in the local area for families.

"As well as meeting the need for high-quality retirement apartments, the development will bring benefits to the local economy. Owners will be within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants and other amenities in the town, helping to boost local businesses."
